Healthstar's blog
I have been working on Disability projects since 2006 and am trying to integrate health and disability into public health. We had a big win when our disability and preparedness staff wrote a joint APHA session proposal and it got accepted! We'll be highlighting the coming together of these two project areas. I've done some additional work with preparedness folks including writing an article about our disability program and its connections with preparedness for their widely disseminated preparedness e-newsletter, and compiling disability/preparedness tools into an easy to use doc. I'm happy to say we've also branched out to injury prevention staff and hope to gain momentum there as well. It is great that we have so many projects here and folks so open to joining efforts.

It struck me the other day that being healthier doesn't have to be hard or awful - it can be fun. I was looking through my SELF magazine and decided that I would look up the SELF Challenge 2009 on their web site to see what it had to offer. Needless to say, I was logged on and looking at all the free, cool features and before I knew it, about an hour passed by and I was determined to begin my challenge.
There is a food diary that helps count the glasses of water that I drink and I found that I don't really count the number of glasses that I drink, but I'm now constantly sipping from my water bottle because I know it's on my to-do list. I did a weight training work out yesterday that was awesome! And I am dancing for cardio - there are tons of calorie burning activities in the Challenge program.
Wondering if anyone else is doing the SELF Challenge 2009 program or an employee wellness program?
Thanks for stopping by! I hope to use this blog to write about the work that I do, my interests and experiences within public health, what I do (and plan to do) to stay healthy and be healthier, and all the while, hopefully learn a lot from others while doing it!
